Hughes Myner - Canada

I am a coach and national referee for wheelchair rugby and have been working at Ottobock for seven years. During my time there I have gained experience of working at other Paralympic events including Vancouver 2010, London 2012 and Sochi 2014 as a welder and technician, along with taking on a presenting role during the Vancouver Games.

I have many great memories from the Paralympics. One that particularly stands out was during the men’s wheelchair basketball gold medal match at London 2012 between Canada and Australia. During the game, one of the Canadian athletes broke the back cane of his chair and the equipment manager brought it into the workshop for repair at the end of the second quarter. We were able to fix the chair and get the player back in his wheelchair before the start of the fourth quarter.

Canada went on to win the gold medal by a score of 64 - 58. With the player back in his chair and able to realise his full potential, it was a fantastic result. It is moments like this that make me truly proud to be part of the Ottobock Technical Service Team.
