Ankle-foot orthosis for children – WalkOn Reaction junior
The WalkOn product range: dynamic ankle-foot orthoses
The WalkOn Reaction junior is the new member of the WalkOn range, intended especially for children with mild neurological deficits of the lower limbs. It offers these children a higher level of overall support than conventional orthoses in this field. The dynamic ankle-foot orthosis improves dorsiflexion and uses ground reaction forces to stabilise the knee and ankle joint.
Applied to the front of the lower leg, the orthosis promotes a more stable, largely physiological gait. The risk of stumbling and falling is reduced and movement patterns are improved.
The orthosis design adapts to the children’s different sizes and respective anatomical conditions. The WalkOn Reaction gets high marks from kids for its numerous advantages, in addition to being very comfortable to wear.
Frontal support element
Thanks to its frontal support element, the WalkOn Reaction junior not only lifts the foot, but also supports the knee joint.
The foot component ensures that the child can flexibly roll over their foot while walking.
The spring element is based in the arch of the foot and offers an outstanding energy return. The energy stored by the WalkOn Reaction junior during heel strike is released again by the spring during the rollover movement.
Lower leg shell with shin pad
The shin pad is located on the lower leg shell. It is made of temperature-regulating padding material and can be easily applied to the leg with a hook-and-loop closure. This results in improved skin hygiene and makes it comfortable to wear.
Benefits at a glance
Walk more naturally
The WalkOn Reaction junior enables the liner to get closer to physiological gait. The special orthosis design supports extension and flexion of the knee during walking. Your child’s gait pattern becomes smoother. This also applies to children with higher activity levels, who require greater support for knee extension.
Fewer compensating movements
Compensating movements often result in signs of wear. The WalkOn Reaction junior can help reduce these with its high energy return. The energy stored during heel strike is released by the orthosis during the rollover movement of the foot. This helps your child walk more symmetrically. The special alignment of the orthosis provides a more natural posture during standing as well.
The WalkOn Reaction junior supports and lifts the foot during the swing phase while walking and this helps increase safety of your child. The risk of catching the tip of the foot, for example on carpet edges or uneven ground, is reduced.
Appropriate for shoes
The orthosis can be worn in standard shoes, and a sturdy shoe is perfectly adequate. You only need to make sure that the shoe has a reinforced heel. To put on the orthosis, you should ideally start by positioning the WalkOn Reaction junior in the shoe. The child can then simply step in with their foot.
Lightweight and discreet
The WalkOn Reaction junior is lightweight, slim and fits discreetly under clothing. A shin pad makes it even more comfortable. It is made of a temperature-regulating material, which reduces heat buildup and perspiration.
Robust and durable
The WalkOn Reaction junior is especially robust. The orthosis has proven its durability in various tests and long-term functional testing.
Giving traumatised children hope again.

Information for specialist dealers
This brochure provides an overview of the application, advantages, features and effects of the WalkOn Reactive junior.
Yes, physical exercise is not only possible but also to be recommended. Speak to your orthotist for advice on which sports are most beneficial for your child and how best to use the orthosis during sports. Extreme and abrupt movements should certainly be avoided.
No, but you should use a sturdy shoe with a reinforced heel. It is important that the orthosis fits firmly so that it moves as little as possible. We also recommend a heel height of 10 mm. Alternatively, this can be determined by your orthotist. Your other shoes should of course have the same heel height.
We recommend that you place the orthosis into the shoe first and then insert your foot. Then you can simply fasten the hook-and-loop closures.
Replacement pads can of course be ordered through your orthotist, who will also adjust them as necessary.
The orthosis should be wiped regularly using water and a mild cleaning agent. All pads and closures are combined, and all textile components can be washed and replaced. We recommend washing the pad at least twice a week (machine washable at 40°C).
