Prosthetics in general: Awards for ten products
International juries impressed by Ottobock design
After winning the Red Dot Award and iF product design award in 2014 with its individual mix of materials and the varied design elements, the Voyager Evo wheelchair for active use was a winner this year again at the German Design Award. In addition to the triple winner, the sport prosthesis system for transfemoral amputees – consisting of the 3S80 Sport knee joint, 1E90 Sprinter carbon spring foot and the 4R204 sport foot adapter – was awarded "Special Mention".
The three prosthetic submissions had especially impressive results; they were all awarded the iF product design award and the Red Dot Award. The new model in the carbon spring foot line, the 1C10 Terion, proved to be a success. The design quality of the 3R62 Pheon polycentric prosthetic knee joint and of the sporty Genium Protector that protects the highly-developed knee joint from scratches and impacts set them off from the competition.
Three other iF product design awards went to Ottobock orthoses. The Malleo TriStep multifunctional orthosis stands for support in the three phases of healing of ligament injuries and a unique design. The HRO heel relief orthosis for the treatment of calcaneal fractures and the Agilium Freestep ankle foot orthosis for cartilage damage patients are also based on the design principle "Form follows function".
These internationally recognised awards reflect the innovative strength in the production of medical technical devices as well as the high design competence of Ottobock. This was also confirmed by Professor Dr. Peter Zec, initiator and CEO of the Red Dot Award, "The winners of the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2015 have demonstrated exceptionally high performance and therefore deserve to be awarded in the world's largest design competition."
