ThermoLyn® Polypropylene Copolymer

At a glance

  • Low weight
  • Good rigidity
  • Increased impact strength
  • Low tendency to white crack
  • Little shrinkage

The new ThermoLyn® Polypropylene Copolymer 616T120 is a sheet material that can be thermoformed and in which by copolymerization the good properties of polypropylene have been combined with the toughness of polyethylene. The polypropylene copolymer (PP-C) obtained in this way shows considerably increased impact strength in comparison with a homopolymer polypropylene (PP-H), especially at low temperatures. The PP copolymer can be excellently thermoformed as well as heat-sealed and is ideal for drawing and laying it around orthotic joints.

High impact strength, even at low temperatures

Thermoplastic sheet materials have had a marked influence of the entire development of orthopaedic technology. By changing the material properties and adapting them to the requirements and processing possibilities found in technical orthopaedics, the number of application fields for thermoplastic sheet materials is continually increasing. Particularly the polyolefins group, which includes polyethylenes (PE) and polypropylenes (PP), is superbly suited for fabricating orthoses. The new ThermoLyn® Polypropylene Copolymer 616T120 is especially recommended for applications requiring a higher impact strength and better thermoformability.

Fields of Application

ThermoLyn® Polypropylene Copolymer 616T120 has many applications. Possible applications include:

  • AFOs (Ankle Foot Orthoses)
  • KAFOs (Knee Ankle Foot Orthoses)
  • FFOs (Functional Foot Orthoses)
  • TLSOs (Thoracolumbosacral Orthoses)

The working temperature is 180°C for convection ovens and infrared ovens and 200°C for heating plates. Thermopaper can be used to give the ThermoLyn® Polypropylene Copolymer an appealing design. You will find a selection of different motifs for children, adolescents and adults in our Materials Catalogue 646K1=GB.
