The goal of osteoporosis therapy is to stop the disease at an early stage, relieve pain, and prevent fractures. At the same time, the musculature should be strengthened and the patient made more mobile.
During the early stages of osteoporosis, it is particularly important to promote and use the muscular activities of the patient. We have developed the Dorso Osteo Care 50R20 orthosis for this purpose.
When feeling pain and fearing fractures, the patient takes a relieving but incorrect posture and becomes more and more inactive. The therapy with orthopaedic appliances aims to maintain the patient's range of motion and mobility over the long term or to restore it after fractures. Reduction of muscle mass can only be prevented and muscle development can only be achieved if there is sufficient activity.
The Dorso Osteo Care 50R20 is indicated for osteoporotic changes in the chest and lumbar spine area as well as the follow-up treatment of vertebral body fractures. The orthosis can be applied during the stages of osteoporosis at which muscle activity can still be used and increased.
The orthosis actively straightens the upper body. The body’s centre of gravity is once again moved back; the patient walks and stands securely once again. The upper body is straightened by retracting the shoulder girdle and compressing the abdomen. This effect is achieved by the adjustable straps and the adaptable back plate. In this way the Dorso Osteo Care helps to activate the back muscles without restricting abdominal and thoracic breathing. The abdominal panel also gently supports the stomach.
The Dorso Osteo Care helps to train the muscles and thus to promote bone formation. The risk of falling and thereby the risk of fractures are efficiently reduced. One of the most important details for the patient is the barely noticeable construction. This makes it possible for the patient to wear the orthosis unobtrusively, even under light clothing. In addition, the orthosis is very easy to put on according to the backpack principle. All fabrics of the Dorso Osteo Care are breathable, pleasantly soft, skin-friendly, and washable.
The orthosis Dorso Osteo Care is supplied ready for fitting and consists of a coated aluminium back plate equipped with a removable cushion, an abdominal support, and a special belt system. The back cushion, abdominal support, and axillary area of the shoulder belt are made of SpaceTex®. SpaceTex® is breathable and has a high restoring force.
The Dorso Osteo Care is available in size S for a torso length of 39 to 41.5 centimeters and the size M for a torso length of 42 to 44.5 centimeters.
