The Hyperextension Orthosis 28R14 has been successfully used for the therapy of stable compression fractures in the lower thoracic spine and lumbar spine areas for years. The way the orthosis works is simply and effective: According to the three-point principle, pads in the sternal, symphysis and lumbar regions straighten the spine. Thus the ventral parts of the vertebral bodies are effectively relieved. Your patient’s pain is reduced.
The hyperextension orthosis is supplied as a component kit. It is available in four sizes and consists of a sternal and a symphysis pad connected to the ventral supports. These foam-coated pads are height adjustable and have a mouldable aluminium core. Therefore they can be adjusted and set individually. The entire ventral part consists of plastic-coated aluminium. Special, user-friendly ratchet closures connect the base plate with the flexible waistband that is attached to the dorsal lumbar pad.
With its low weight, the hyperextension orthosis distinguishes itself through its high level of wearer comfort. It is made of skin-friendly material, is water resistant, and is easy to put on and take off.
A literature study we prepared for the conservative treatment of fractures of the thoracolumbar transition with hyperextension orthoses shows that the results of functional therapy of vertebral body fractures under consideration of the subjective complaints, mobility, and ability to work were described as very good to good in the literature in 80 to 90 percent of the cases.
