Always on the go

Ursula Schlesselmann has been wearing a prosthesis since her accident 19 years ago. She is currently using a cosmetic arm prosthesis, also known as a passive arm prosthesis. Such an arm prosthesis is suitable for anyone who values the exterior appearance over functionality.

Ursula Schlesselmann is enjoying this summer to the fullest – in short sleeves. While she could put nail polish on the fingernails of her new prosthesis, she prefers to wear a silver armband around her wrist and says “that’s more to my taste”. Asked about sports activities, Ursula Schlesselmann starts to gush. As a passionate tennis player and cyclist, she is always on the go. She just got back from a 5-day bicycle tour – with another 300 km on the odometer.

But the 65-year-old has no time to rest. She’s off to her next tennis game soon. Since Ursula Schlesselmann loves nature, she prefers to spend every available minute enjoying fresh air. Boating on the lake when the weather is fair or taking long walks, her husband always takes the camera along in order to capture the beautiful moments.

Otto Bock fitting details

For Ursula Schlesselmann, the appearance of a prosthesis is very important. Her arm prosthesis serves to complete her physical self-image. This is why Ursula Schlesselmann made a conscious decision to forego active functions in her arm prosthesis. She was fitted with a cosmetic arm prosthesis that was individually fabricated using her sound limb as a model. While the functionality of this prosthesis is limited to a simple counter-support, the low weight of the prosthesis has a positive effect on her physical balance and thereby helps prevent incorrect posture. The prosthesis also meets high standards in terms of design, appearance, wearer comfort, weight and easy handling.
