Six Children – It’s A Start

Otto Bock Foundation: Concrete Emergency Aid Has Begun.

The relief action “Give Children a Future” of the Otto Bock Foundation has begun for the first six children in the earthquake disaster area of Sichuan.

The relief action “Give Children a Future” of the Otto Bock Foundation has begun for the first six children in the earthquake disaster area of Sichuan. They were brought to Beijing with the help of the Red Cross China. Medical technology care commenced immediately for four of them, while two are undergoing therapy in preparation for treatment.

The children suffered extremely serious injuries and had arm or leg amputations. “Measured by the extent of this disaster, any aid seems like a drop in a bucket. But you have to start somewhere. Every single child is worth the effort,” is how Professor Hans Georg Näder explains the commitment of the Otto Bock Foundation.
He thanked the donors, the Katarina Witt Foundation and Peter Maffay for their support. In conjunction with his visit to the Paralympics in Beijing (September 6 to 17, 2008), Professor Näder is also planning to meet the Chinese children now receiving care.

The next initiative is expected to be launched shortly in Chengdu, in cooperation with a hospital and an orthopaedics technology workshop. The fundraising campaign “Give Children a Future” for earthquake and flood victims in China and Burma continues. For more information, please visit www.foundation.ottobock.com on the internet.
